Panama’s geographic location is unique. Often known as “The Bridge of the World,” its proximity to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and North and South America make Panama an ideal route for trade, travel and business. The country is located in Central America, between Colombia and Costa Rica. The Panama Isthmus is, no doubt, one of the planet’s environmental treasures.

Regarding Panamanian experiences with the International Hydrological Program and the HELP initiative, the Panama Canal Watershed (PCW) joined the HELP initiative early, since the pilot phase in 2000. Since that time, most relevant transformations in the Watershed truly reflect the advancement in attaining integrated solutions from the practice of HELP principles –making existing and new scientific knowledge in hydrology and water management a tool for designing, implementing, measuring and sharing user-driven solutions (policy, plans, programs, projects, etc.), tailored to local conditions..

More than a decade ago, Panama embarked in extensive studies to design a Canal expansion program –now underway- to maintain and increase Canal capacity to handle increasing demand and improve service quality; in short, to make it more efficient, productive, and competitive. Come and see first-hand the advances of the Canal expansion program, a large water-management initiative that has received more than 10 international awards among which are: the "Best International Project", “Best Construction Project in the World", "Largest infrastructure initiative in Latin America”, "Most Significant Project in the World”, and "Best Long Term Performance Project".
